Top Stop Nipper - Latest model with 'Twist' blades
Top Stop Nipper for Noble and Nordmann Fir leader reduction, use in May or early June on trees with four or five years growth and minimum 28-30 cm leader growth in the previous spring.
After twenty years, the Top Stop Nipper, which has proved indispensible to many growers iis now out of patent and is available at a significantly lower price of £225 delivered plus VAT
From 2022, a new Twist model was introduced as standard, fitted with rounded edges to the five blades. This new adaptation gives an improved twist action with less chance of tearing the cambium and a slightly wider opening to accommodate thicker leaders.
An essential part of your Nordmann Fir leader control regime. For optimal results, use this tool in May and early June, when the new leader bud has burst and extended 2-3 cm. It is applied to the previous years leader with one to four sets of cuts required according to length of previous leader and the degree of control required. Each tree is treated only once, but as trees in a crop flush at different times, two or three passes may be required. Do not treat too early as treatment will be significantly less effective.
Recent advice from inventor, Lars Geil proposes additional 25-30° articulation of the bottom-most set of cuts to enhance the degree of control. This twist action is approximately equal to two standard sets of cuts.
Unlike hormonal treatments, the Top Stop Nipper reduces the length of first whorl branches as well as the leader resulting in retention of the tree's natural conical shape.
Supplied with an extensive user guide and supported by years of development and ongoing research.
For optimal results, use as part of a mixed control strategy in conjunction with an approved hormonal treatment such as Fixor and ConShape.
