The bird stick is clipped to the top of the previous year's leader shoot to protect the newly emerging leader shoot from bird damage. The peg is made with an additional channel, which can be made into a T-shape with the use of additional plastic sticks (sold separately) See second picture.

The Bird stick and clip are made from UV-stabilized plastic material,  this enables recycling for use over several seasons. The plastic stick is more stable in use and less likely to be blown off the peg than a wooden stick.
